San Luis Obispo Beach Volleyball has been successful with a strong record of 7-5 in league, and currently sitting fourth in league. The team’s success comes from each individual’s dedication and passion.
Beach volleyball is a sport played on a sand court where two teams of two players score points by hitting the ball in the other team’s court. Beach volleyball athletes have to pass, set, and spike the ball while the opponents block the ball.
“My favorite aspect of this beach volleyball season is getting to play the sport I love and pushing myself to be my best every day,” said sophomore Ella Buchanan.
Every sport faces its own challenges, beach volleyball faces many unique challenges that some may not realize.
“The biggest challenges that I face as a Beach Volleyball athlete is dealing with uncontrollable factors such as wind, injuries, and having to stay flexible with changes,” said Buchanan.
There are many factors that impact the physical demands of beach volleyball. Along with the unexpected winds, playing on sand compared to indoors increases effort for every step and jump compared to playing on hard floors. Beach volleyball players aren’t just resilient through environmental challenges but also challenges encountered throughout the game.
“The hardest part of beach volleyball is when you make a mistake because you play with only you and one other person. The mistake feels bigger because the game depends on you and your partner,” said junior Elyse Corey.
The SLOHS Beach Volleyball team is strong through these challenges, they push through and bring home the W.
“We are having a good season, seeming as over half the team is underclassmen,” said junior Maddie Immoos.
Beach Volleyball has pushed through their challenges and have been having an amazing season! Let’s continue to support these Beach Volleyball athletes!
