San Luis Obispo High School has an amazing boys golf team. They are coming off a great 25–26 season with a CIF win under their belt, showing their hard work, talent, and dedication throughout the year. The team has built a strong reputation, and their success continues to grow with each season. Expressions sat down with golf star Junior Kelton Sullivan to gain some more insight into what makes him such a success on the green and what it’s like being part of such a strong team.
Expressions: What got you into golf in the first place?
Junior Kelton Sullivan: My dad forced me into it and I just never stopped playing. After you start it got addictive. I kept playing more and more, and eventually it became something I really enjoyed doing.
Expressions: How long have you been playing?
Sullivan: I’ve been constantly playing for a year but first picked up a club when I was super little around the age of six. Even though I started young, I’ve only recently taken it more seriously.
Expressions: What’s your favorite part about being on the team?
Sullivan: I love how competitive our team is with each other and how we can all have fun together as friends. It makes practices and matches more exciting.
Expressions: What’s the hardest part of golf for you?
Sullivan: Definitely mindset, making sure I’m not constantly getting in my own head and telling myself I’m going to hit a good shot. Staying confident is really important.
Expressions: Do you prefer practice days or tournament days?
Sullivan: Probably tournament days because you get to go on van rides with teammates, and winning my first tournament this year made me love it even more. Competing is just really fun.
Send all your quiet cheers to the boys golf team for their wins and wish them good luck for next season as they continue to build on their success!
