Yanagi Sushi is the perfect place for San Luis Obispo High School students to grab a quick bite. With the location on Marsh Street, near SLOHS, it’s very accessible to students. The service there is extremely friendly and quick, it is reasonably priced, they have an extensive menu with options for everyone, and the sushi is fresh.
Senior Rafael Chavez: We went to Yanagi Sushi near San Luis Obispo High School, by Smart and Final. The prices are good for what you get, and the fish is very fresh. It’s really tasty when you take the first bite.
Senior Ruby Blackburn: The atmosphere is quite nice. It has a lot of vases with flowers, a dark ambiance, and a TV showing videos of them prepping the sushi. You can also see them making the rolls in the kitchen, so you know you’re getting fresh food.
Chavez: I ordered the Kiss of Fire roll; it had spicy tuna and cucumbers inside, topped with fresh tuna and jalapeños. I enjoyed it a lot; every bite had a little bit of spice. It was very refreshing. I also got the Blue Hawaiian, which I really liked. It tastes similar to the Playboy roll from Sushiya. It had salmon, avocado, tuna, real crab, with crunchy pieces, mayo, and eel sauce on top.
Blackburn: I got the chicken gyoza as my appetizer, which is like fried wontons, and I dipped it in soy sauce. It was very hot and crunchy, and I enjoyed it. I also ordered the spicy tuna roll, it had fresh spicy tuna and cucumber. It wasn’t too spicy but wasn’t too mild.
Chavez: The service was quick. We sat down for about ten minutes, ordered, and got our food in around 5 minutes.
Blackburn: The workers were extremely nice; they greeted us when we walked in the door with a kind presence. Overall, very nice people.
What is it?: Yanagi Sushi
What is it worth, Chavez?: I would recommend Yanagi Sushi.
What is it worth, Blackburn?: I would also recommend. It was good prices for the specials and regular rolls. Rafael got one of the specials and got lots of fish in his roll for about twenty dollars. And my roll was around ten dollars. Ten out of ten would recommend Yanagi Sushi.
