This summer, students from San Luis Obispo High School will travel across Japan to explore and learn about Japanese food and culture, history and daily life through a school organized educational tour led by Social Sciences Teacher Josiah Cameron.
The trip is this Thursday, June 11 through June 21.
“Instead of only studying topics like World War II history, feudal Japan, religion, urbanization, or cultural exchange in class, students will actually stand in places where history happened and interact with people and traditions that continue to shape Japan today,” said social sciences teacher Josiah Cameron.
Travelling internationally has grown very much globally with an estimated 1.52 billion tourist arrivals globally. Educational trips like this give students opportunities to better understand cultures. Experiencing another country can also challenge students to step outside their comfort zone and become more open minded about life.
“I’m super excited for this experience to go on a trip like this and have such a learning opportunity and lifetime experience,” said junior Nelly Rourke.
The exploration of Japanese culture and visiting famous landmarks and experiencing life in another country firsthand. Cameron would like to give the students an unforgettable experience of history, culture and religion. Travelling internationally comes with students building independence and adaptability and respect for other cultures. Also learning about language barriers and working together as a group. The planning of this trip was pretty simple. It is planned through EF Tours with a bunch of packaged tours.
“I’m mostly excited to go to Hiroshima, because I think it’ll be really cool learning about its history plus I haven’t been to Asia before,” said senior Lilliana Ruiz.
