Walking around San Luis Obispo High School, one may observe the awesome t-shirts some are wearing to represent their favorite clubs and extracurricular activities. Yet, many wonder, what goes into the process of making these stylish shirts? Expressions went to the secret t shirt making hang out to get the information

The process begins with slathering a generous amount of thick ink on top of the design.

Then, a blank t-shirt is laid upon a board sitting under the design, carefully aligned to ensure the design is centered and positioned correctly.

The design comes down, centering itself by aligning with a slot near the neck.

With a wooden scraper, the maker covers the design completely with a layer of ink before scraping it all to one end twice. The ink sinks through the screen and prints the design on the shirt.

The printed t-shirt is placed under a machine that heats the wet ink, quickly adhering it to the shirt.

Voila! A SLOHS Journalism t-shirt is born!
The t-shirt printing process at SLOHS is extremely complex and is a great way to represent the colorful and unique culture here. Want to design and make your own shirts? Email Roper or Nairne for details!
