With the World Cup happening this year here in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, students at San Luis Obispo High School have been getting ready to cheer on their favorite national teams. Their favorite teams may be where their ethnic or heritage background come from, or they just like a certain national team because of their favorite player.
With teams like Spain, France, and Argentina being big favorites, the outcome of the World Cup comes down to the performances of other teams. This is because four years ago, Argentina took the win, and people are now hoping France will win the 2022 World Cup.
“I see Ghana, Mexico, Argentina, and Portugal doing well in their group stage matches,” said senior Aaron Heras.
As the World Cup approaches, more and more people start to tune in and begin buying tickets, with the matches being very interesting, but the best matches have to be the semi-finals and the final as people see who is the teams that have done the best and have to compete for a spot in the final match with the final match declaring the best team.
“I would like to see Germany against Spain in the finals, again, as in the Euros, that match was like, pretty intense, and I would say it was pretty close. Or, I would like for either Messi to win the World Cup again, so he can just end the debate right there and then. If not Messi, then I would have to go for Mexico, obviously, since that’s where I’m from, and my parents are from,” said senior Juan Carlos Martinon.
With students at SLOHS getting their favorite teams and ready, who is going to win? The World Cup starts in June, Tigers!
