Interview With Coach Johnston About Disney Movies

Interview With Coach Johnston About Disney Movies

San Luis Obispo High School physical education teacher Pat Johnston is a fan of Disney. Although he is on the football field giving orders, at home Johnston has a wife and two girls to encourage him to love Disney. And apparently, Johnston seems to know his stuff about Disney movies. Expressions decided to sit down and interview Johnston.

Expressions: Why do you like Disney movies?

Physical Education teacher Pat Johnston: What’s not to love about Disney movies? I’ve been watching Disney movies since I was a kid, my parents and grandparents introduced me and my brothers to them. My wife is also a big fan so we were excited to introduce our kids to them.

Expressions: What is your favorite Disney movie?

Johnston: The “Emperor’s New Groove”.

Expressions: Do you have any favorite quotes?

Johnston: Oh man, I mean even though he is a bad guy, but Gaston from “Beauty and the Beast”. He’s kind of funny to me, and I just like his song and most of his one-liners.

Expressions: Who is your favorite Disney princess?

Johnston: Favorite Disney princess? Oh, that’s a tough one. I mean, there are so many great princesses in this Disney universe, but I can tell you that my daughters love Cinderella and Moana. I don’t know if I could pick one. They all have such great qualities that make them memorable and special.

Expressions: Who is your favorite Disney character?

Johnston: A four-way tie between Maui from “Moana”, Gaston from “Beauty and the Beast”, Kronk from “The Emperor’s New Groove”, and I really like Scuttle the seagull from “The Little Mermaid”. You can’t discount Eddie Murphy playing the dragon in “Mulan” or Genie from “Aladdin”. Robin Williams absolutely crushed that. And the list goes on and on.

Expressions: What feelings does Disney give you?

Johnston: When I took my daughters to Disneyland for the first time, just walking through and hearing the music of all the rides just gives you the feeling of being young again, hearing a good story, and just knowing there’s always a happy ending.
