Students around San Luis Obispo High School have watched the “Scream” movie franchise, which has a total of seven movies. Although it might seem like a lot of movies, people love how enjoyable it is to watch them.
“My favorite thing about the movies is probably how fun they are to watch with friends. I like how they have the suspense and twists of a horror movie without being as terrifying or graphic as a lot of others out there,” said sophomore Cadence Flickinger.
The franchise started pretty well, with the first movie being a hit as soon as it came out. People got attached to it and wanted more of it. Which naturally leads to the creation of a franchise. The second movie wasn’t the best, which made people disappointed, so they made another, and they kept going nonstop, no matter how repetitive it might seem.
“Scream 7” earned $214 million worldwide. Obviously, this movie formula is working.
“I feel like it’s just a money grab at this point because they’re making so many movies with the same concept and the plot’s not really changing,” said sophomore Sophia Kuang.
While the movies are absolutely legendary, the franchise is getting too long, and it just looks like it’s being dragged out too far. A lot of people have lost interest after the sixth movie. It just stopped being as interesting and fun as it was before, since it’s now more predictable and not as exciting as it was.
“I think the movies should stop where they are now, it is the same over and over again, and it’s just getting too repetitive. It came to a point where you can predict what’s going to happen to the characters and killers in the movies,” said sophomore Yvonne Garcia.
Overall, the franchise is good; each movie has its own story with different characters but the same plot. The “Scream” movies will never not be iconic.
