The long awaited Nintendo Switch release of “Tomadachi Life” is finally here, and students at San Luis Obispo High School can’t wait to play.
“Tomadachi Life: Living the Dream” released on Thursday, April 16 on the Nintendo Switch at a retail price of $59.99, with the free demo having been released before that on March 25. The social simulation game is a sequel to the Nintendo 3DS title “Tomadachi Life” and it’s the third installment of the Tomadachi series.
“My initial reaction [to the game] was pure joy,” said sophomore Vanessa Lopez. “I have never felt so whimsical.”
The game includes customizable “Mii” characters that live on an island of the player’s design. After designing a Mii, the player can choose personality traits that are unique to each character, with sixteen different personality types in total. Each Mii gets a house on the island, free to roam and make friends on their own.
“The amount of character customization surprised me,” said senior Thora Adams. “I had a lot of fun making my favorites.”
The game has received positive feedback from avid fans, especially for its inclusion of same-sex relationships and a non-binary gender option for the Miis.
“I think the inclusion is great,” said junior Hayla Ackerman. “As a non-binary person myself, I appreciate the update.”
“Tomadachi Life: Living the Dream” stays faithful to its predecessor with its silly scenarios and quirky text-to-speech voices. The various situations the Miis can get into keep players coming back for more.
So if students have $60 to spare, they should get “Tomadachi Life: Living the Dream” on their Nintendo Switch and live the dream vicariously through the Miis they create!
