When San Luis Obispo High School students took the Youth Truth survey, earlier this year, the data revealed that about 25 percent of students felt like they are not a part of SLOHS’ community. The Wellness Center can help students feel more a part of SLOHS’ community.
The Wellness Center is filled with staff that are willing to help if a student is in need of a break or just a space to relax.
“If a student needed help, they could either go to a teacher, their counselor in the main office, or the wellness center and talk to someone to ask for the resources they need,” said sophomore Madison Palmerston.
Students may choose to go to the Wellness Center for various reasons.
“Students can choose who they’d like to talk to, whether that’s a counselor, a peer, or someone at the front desk. If they’ve heard good things about a particular staff member, they can request that person on their check-in form. We want students to feel comfortable and in control of their experience. For those who prefer online therapy, we can help set that up too,” said Wellness counselor Austin Miller.
The Wellness Center allows any students for any reason, at any time of the day.
“We welcome students for any reason, whether it’s needing a space to breathe, wanting to talk through a fight with a friend, or simply feeling lonely. Some students come regularly for ongoing support, while others stop by when they need a quick reset. There’s no wrong reason to come in,” said counselor Kimberly Ingham.
The Wellness Center staff are always willing to give any kind of support for students, any day. For any Tigers feeling down or needing a break, check out the Wellness Center!
