San Luis Obispo High School’s very own junior Malia Gin is graduating this year with the class of 2019, but what is waiting for her out there that is making her leave SLOHS a year early?
Expressions: Why are you graduating early?
Junior Malia Gin: My college coaches from Oregon State University asked me if I was interested and proposed a question of me graduating early to come up and play softball for them.
Expressions: What do you look most forward to in college?
Gin: It has always been a dream of mine to play college softball and just having the opportunity to go earlier is amazing. I look most forward to meet new people and make a ton of new friends and just competing in the game I love. To me, it’s just an honor that my coaches are giving me this incredible opportunity.
Expressions: Are you coming back next year to “ graduate” with your own grade?
Gin: I don’t know yet, I will have to ask my counselor but it’s something I really want to do since I’m not able to walk with the 2019 class.
Expressions: Is it hard work to graduate early?
Gin: Oh, yes… Right now I’m currently taking a political science class online through Cuesta, I’m also taking a kinesiology class through Cuesta and I’ll be taking Econ and English to complete my credits during summer also trough Cuesta. So it’s really hard work, I have to pass four classes to be able to go to college this summer.
