Ruby Blackburn, a former SLO High student, is set to continue her STUNT career at Northwest Nazarene University. Blackburn began competing in STUNT as a freshman and built an impressive four-year career marked by dedication, growth, and success. Throughout her time at SLOHS, Blackburn earned the Scholar-Athlete Award all four years. She also received the Coaches Award as a freshman, the Most Outstanding Athlete Award as a sophomore, and the Most Resilient Award as a junior, highlighting her commitment both on the mat and in the classroom.
Expressions: What made you wanna pursue a career in cheering?
2026 SLOHS Graduate Ruby Blackburn: I wanted to pursue Stunt in college because I really enjoyed my high school experience, and, I didn’t want to stop at high school, and I wanted to continue doing it through college.
Expressions :Who was your inspiration for this decision?
Blackburn: My inspiration for this decision has been my coaches, who’ve helped me grow as an athlete, as well as, like, teammates. That helped me be confident in my decision.
Expressions: Are you scared to take this step?
Blackburn: I’m a little scared to take the step because I’m moving out of California, and I won’t know that many people, so I’m a little worried about that.
Expressions: What are you most excited about?
Blackburn: I’m most excited about bonding with the new team and traveling with them., and just experiencing college with the athletic team.
Expressions: What will you miss about high school cheering?
Blackburn: I’m gonna miss the high school team, all my friends. on the team in high school. And the coaches.
Overall, Ruby Blackburn’s hard work, dedication, and success throughout her four years of STUNT have helped her earn the opportunity to continue competing at Northwest Nazarene University. Her achievements at SLO High show the impact she made on the program and the bright future she has ahead at the next level.
