After years of waiting, the new season of “Euphoria” is finally here, and San Luis Obispo High School students have strong opinions about it. Students wait anxiously for each Sunday to see what happens next.
Before season three, the show followed a group of teenagers as they navigated high school through friendship, love, substance abuse, and trauma. As new episodes of “Euphoria” began to roll out on Sunday, April 13, season three follows the graduating students as they navigate life after high school.
“Euphoria” is currently HBO’s second most watched show of all time, Behind the legendary “Game of Thrones ” series.
“This show originally became culturally popular because it introduces a lot of topics that aren’t seen on regular shows, especially not with teens. Because this show was about teenagers in high school, it kept viewers’ attention because it was ‘daring,’” said senior Clover Crockett.
Season three of “Euphoria” follows Rue working as a DEA informant while working in a strip club, Nate and Cassie struggling with financial issues in their marriage, and Jules, who tries to balance her life in art school with her sugar daddy relations.
“I’m struggling to enjoy season three of ‘Euphoria.’ I think the show has lost its original plot once it strayed from being about high schoolers. This season took away a lot of the characters’ depths and perspectives,” said senior Jackie Hernandez.
Season three jumps five years ahead in the timeline, causing many fans to miss the show’s messy teenage vibe. This time jump also leads teens to feel as though the show isn’t as relatable to them.
“I have been enjoying the new season; however, I do think the show has become more chaotic and dark,” said sophomore Jasmine Jenny.
Despite the backlash Euphoria is facing, it has still garnered massive popularity, with the season premiere drawing 8.5 million views in the first three days.
“I don’t think this new season lives up to the hype from previous seasons. I just think this show is super slow, and it’s hard to get into each episode because there isn’t really anything to take away from each episode,” said Crockett.
SLOHS students don’t think the new season of “Euphoria” lives up to the hype.
If you are bored watch it on HBO.
