Adviser note: Welcome to the first 2-WAY Talk article. Inspired by Journalists Anna and Glen Starkey over at https://www.newtimesslo.com/ , Expressions will use these articles as a vehicle for straight up student views and rants about school culture, family, etc. The format is simple: have two reporters sit and talk. In the age of cell phones and social media, good ‘ol conversation is dying. But not here!
Clothing brand Ed Hardy has been a bold symbol since the early 2000s in fashion, and it’s making a noticeable comeback here at San Luis Obispo High School. Its signature tattoo-style graphics and vibrant designs have re-entered through social media and celebrity influence, making its way into a new generation of style fans.
This clothing brand was founded by Christian Audigier in 2004 by licensing the tattoo art of Don Ed Hardy. The brand quickly exploded in popularity, becoming a defining look of the mid-2000s. By the early 2010s, the brand fell out of popularity as fashion shifted more towards minimalism. It became associated with being “overdone” or outdated. Students at SLOHS claim it’s gaining its popularity back.
Junior Gabby Arteaga Ed Hardy is one of my favorite clothing brands. It’s stylish, comfortable, and affordable. It’s something that everyone will look good in. This is making a comeback; you can walk around school, and I guarantee you will see someone wearing this brand. Every time I wear it, I get lots of compliments. You can wear Ed Hardy with anything. Like, if you have a cropped hoodie from there, you can just pair it with some simple jeans, or if you have Ed Hardy jeans or sweats, you could just wear a plain black shirt.
Senior Kanaylah Dunn Ed Hardy is the perfect brand for those looking for nostalgic and bold fashion. It’s the epitome of audaciousness in the fashion world because of its attentive design. Before its controversial past, their pieces were worn by influencers, teenagers, and celebrities, which further gained this brand’s popularity.
Arteaga What I love about this brand is that it has a variety of sizes, designs, and how it goes from shoes to even perfumes. I like how it’s loud and apologetic in a way. The tattoo-style graphics, skulls, rhinestones, and bold colors stand out in an era where a lot of fashion is neutral and minimalist.
Dunn I also think that this clothing brand is very creative and playful. It’s also cool that stores such as Ross or T.J. Maxx sells their clothing as well for reasonable prices. Being able to shop at popular retail stores and capturing sales or deals for these vintage pieces is a win-win!
