Every year San Luis Obispo High School produces a spring musical and this year the production is called “Urinetown”. While this might sound odd, the show is actually really interesting as it explores capitalism and rebellion through the idea of everyone having to “pay to pee” which highlights the absurdity of charging people for exhibiting human functions. SLOHS has cast countless amazing actors and singers to be in this year’s spring musical, “Urinetown.”
“My character is Little Sally, I am a little girl who serves as a narrator and often breaks the fourth wall by asking questions. I have loved being in “Urinetown.” It is my first show at SLOHS, and I am so thankful to be one of the lead roles, I love to act, sing and dance and this has been a wonderful experience for me,” said freshman Ellison Gallagher.
The “Urinetown” cast is having so much fun rehearsing for the musical, learning new choreography, getting to know the other cast members, and getting to do what they love doing.
“I’m part of the poor dance ensemble, so I’m a poor towns person and I join the revolution and I am having a lot of fun learning the dances and scenes. I’ve made so many friends. It’s a lot of work with long nights, but it is going to be so worth it, and I’m so proud of our wonderful cast,” said freshman Tori Simms.
School activities like this is really fun for students to experience and enjoy, especially if it’s something they enjoy doing. Cast member Layla Mooney shares her experience being in the SLOHS spring musical.
“I think “Urinetown” is so fun. I love hanging out with everyone and meeting and getting closer with more people. My experience has been so great all the directors are so kind and supportive,” said freshman Layla Mooney.
“Urinetown” opened on February 13, and the show runs with six shows through Saturday the 21st. Ticket prices for the musical are $10 for people under eighteen, $15 for adults, and $5 for those with an ASB sticker.
Proceeds are important for the theater’s upkeep and supplies and for offering these amazing opportunities for students to hone their skills in the theatrical arts. Get tickets at slohsdrama.ludus.com.
