San Luis Obispo has no shortage of restaurants that serve fried chicken, but where are San Luis Obispo High School students going for their share of soul food?
Around town, more and more fried chicken spots have been popping up. All of these restaurants are top-notch and have driven in large crowds of SLOHS students. With summer approaching, this trend should grow.
“Popeyes is my budget pick, but Jay Bird’s is better for formal occasions,” said sophomore and fried chicken connoisseur Diego Rosen.
Popeyes and Jay Bird’s are among the many restaurants that have drawn a lot of attention from SLOHS students with its great location and obviously, good food. However, it’s far from the only fried chicken restaurant in the town. Unlike many other foods, there is no shortage of options for fried chicken in SLO County.
“I have Raising Canes pretty often. [I] find myself drawn to the sizzling embrace of each tender bite,” said freshman Levi Davis.
Located in Santa Maria, Raising Canes is one of the most popular places to get fried chicken. If you are intimidated by the half-hour drive to Santa Maria, there are still many delicious options within, or closer to SLO.
“My favorite fried chicken place in SLO is Dave’s Hot Chicken, because I like it a little spicy if you know what I mean,” said freshman Brady Slowik.
Aside from the food, the charm of fried chicken places like Dave’s Hot Chicken and Raising Canes should be enough to convince SLOHS students to visit there. With restaurant options in every corner of town, most SLOHS students are bound to have a fried chicken spot pretty much next door.
“Jay Bird’s is pretty good, Raising Canes is good, but Dave’s Hot Chicken is goated,” said Slowik.
Even if you’ve never had fried chicken, it’s definitely worth trying it at a local restaurant here in SLO. No matter which restaurant you choose, it will be a good pick.
