Senior Mason MacDonald has played tennis at San Luis Obispo High School for four successful years, becoming a respected leader and athlete on the Boys Varsity team.
MacDonald has spent these years perfecting his craft and helping his team compete at a higher level.
“I first started playing tennis when I was thirteen and it was because I found an old racquet in my backyard and I couldn’t stop playing with it,” said MacDonald.
What started as a simple game quickly turned into a passion that pushed him to work hard and improve his skills over the years.
Behind the scenes, MacDonald explained that his success in tennis is thanks to his dedication outside of practice.
“I had a lot of personal lessons when I was younger, but I think the biggest thing that helped me was going to the gym and focusing on my athleticism,” said MacDonald.
His commitment to training and staying disciplined has helped him grow into one of the team’s top players during his time at SLOHS.
One of MacDonald’s favorite memories from his four years on the team came during this season at the California men’s classic tournament.
“My best memory during my four years on the team was this year playing tennis in the hotel room with my teammates at our California Men’s Classic Tournament,” said MacDonald.
Moments like these have helped create strong friendships and team chemistry throughout MacDonald’s high school career.
A stand out moment came on Tuesday, May 5, at League Finals when MacDonald and Alex Corbo held on in a close match for the first SLO match point 8-6. Macdonald then went nuclear in Singles play with straight set wins to advance to CIF.
“We all had our eyes set on winning CIF, especially for us seniors,” said MacDonald.
With determination and experience leading the way, MacDonald leaves a lasting impact on the SLOHS tennis program.
