The Kermit Basketball League (KBL) stayed kicking throughout the summer. Although former commissioner and San Luis Obispo High School graduate Milo Nemetz had to stop running the league, the passion for basketball still stayed strong for the players.
Senior Calvin Nemetz took it upon himself to continue Milo’s legacy, but added a bit of his own flair into the league.
“I changed it to 3v3 for the summer because I feel like that would just be better for a lot of the students. The summer league was a lot less serious, and we didn’t really track games because it was just for fun,” said senior Calvin Nemetz.
The three-versus-three concept for games was a stroke of genius. Many players in the KBL are not fond of cardio, and this new style allowed the games to be played only in the half-court. Because of this, the league drew more attention throughout the summer.
“If it were full court, I probably wouldn’t have even gone. I have football every day in the summer and was always tired, so I don’t want to run too much outside of practice,” said senior Gavin Musallem.
The best part of KBL is that it gives people a community to feel a part of. Many kids come together to play basketball, and there aren’t many things in life better than that.
“I love the summer league because it gives me something to do. I don’t travel much, so this is a perfect way for me to get out of the house and have some fun with my friends,” said senior Mukuza Malama.
The KBL is a great place to make friends and improve your game. Although most players aren’t the best at basketball, everyone always has fun.
