Many students at San Luis Obispo High School deem music as a key part of their lives. One of the benefits of being a music buff is always having new songs to listen to, but what happens when artists run out of good ideas?
2024 was widely regarded as an amazing year for music. With hit albums such as “Hit Me Hard And Soft” from American singer Billie Eilish, to the iconic “BRAT” by English singer Charli XCX, and American singer Beyonce’s “Cowboy Carter”, last year was filled with releases. Since most artists follow a pattern of after releasing an album waiting at least a year or two before putting out anything else, people expect a drop in albums from their favorite artists.
“There already has been some really good music that’s come out in 2025, it started the year out nicely. But since 2024 was such a good year I hope 2025 isn’t too bad,” said freshman Jalilah Mitchell-Hershman.
Some upcoming releases include “So Close To What?” on February 21 from Canadian singer Tate Mcrae, “Mayhem” from American singer Lady Gaga on March 7, and American singer Lana Del Rey’s “The Right Person Will Stay” coming out on May 21. Other artists such as American rapper Cardi B, American singer Kesha, and American singer Charlie Puth are rumored to be releasing new music in 2025.
“I’m excited for the new Tate McRae album, I don’t listen to her that much but she’s becoming more popular which is really fun. Also The Weeknd’s new album just came out so I’m really excited to listen to that,” said Mitchell-Hershman.
Another large element of music is the tours that accompany album releases. Beyonce just announced this past week that she will begin her long awaited “Cowboy Carter” tour which will start in April following the album winning Album of the Year at the 2025 Grammys.
Others include the continuation of tours from American singer Sabrina Carpenter, American singer Gracie Abrams, and Billie Eilish that began in 2024. American rapper Kendrick Lamar will be embarking on a joint tour with American R&B singer SZA in April after their upcoming Super Bowl performance. American rapper Tyler, the Creator, English-Albanian singer Dua Lipa, and Colombian singer Shakira will all be heading on the road for their own personal tours this year.
“I’m really excited about the [Kendrick Lamar] tour and I’m hoping maybe to go to it,” said freshman Blake Hammer.
2025 is actually looking pretty good for fans. While 2024 may have been great for many music fans, everyone has their own taste and this year each person will be able to find at least one new song to enjoy.
