SLOHS Student Athletes Begin Winter Sports Tryouts

SLOHS+Student+Athletes+Begin+Winter+Sports+Tryouts

Winter sports tryouts have officially started at San Luis Obispo High School, and student athletes are all geared up to demonstrate their skills and impress the coaches enough to make a spot on the team.

“I play basketball. I’m excited [for tryouts], I enjoy how the game moves really quickly, and how it’s like a team sport,” said freshman Abby Southern.

Winter sports include boy’s and girl’s basketball, soccer, and wrestling. Tryouts for all these sports take place after school, Monday through Friday this week. Student athletes whose participation in fall sports conflicts with the tryout schedule will get a seperate five-day tryout period of their own after their fall sport ends.

“I play soccer, and I’m excited [for tryouts] because I know what it’s like. Basically, there’s fitness testing for a couple days and then there’s actual skill [testing],” said sophomore Coco Israel.

The coaches for the winter sports teams have been preparing for the upcoming seasons, and are excited for all the new talent that will be trying out.

“[My favorite part about tryouts is] seeing new faces trying out a new sport. I believe that every student has a chance to become a great wrestler through hard work,” said wrestling coach and science teacher Kyle Harmon.

As the first trimester and fall sports season ends, the second trimester and winter sports season begins. The teams participating in the winter sports season show promising signs of talent, making this season one to look forward to.
