Peace, Love, Dirt, FOREVER: Live Oak Music Festival

Peace, Love, Dirt, FOREVER: Live Oak Music Festival

Live Oak is a summer festival which includes music and camping, which many students at San Luis Obispo High School enjoy. Previously it was held at Camp San Marcos, This is the first year it will be moved to El Chorro Regional Park on June 21st through 23rd. Expressions asked students about the past Live Oaks to learn more.

Expressions: When did you attend Live Oak last?

SLOHS Graduate Abigail Howe: 2017

Senior Bella Gerencser: 2018

SLOHS Graduate Jena Naficy: 2018

Expressions: Where was Live Oak when you attended?

Howe: Somewhere near Los Olivos but I’m not sure.

Gerencser: Santa Barbara.

Naficy:  The old Campground by Los Olivos.

Expressions: Who did you go with?

Howe: My family.

Gerencser: My friends.

Naficy: My dad and friends.

Expressions: What was your reasoning to go to Live Oak?

Howe: My dad plays bluegrass music so we wanted to go see it.

Gerencser: Teen angst and fun with friends plus an excuse to go camping.

Naficy:  I went because it’s a very groovy environment with cool people and great shows.

Expressions: What is your favorite part about Live Oak?

Howe: When I was younger I was able to leave for the day and then come back with little to no rules and a lot of freedom.

Gerencser:  Camping and being surrounded by acquaintances especially out of a school setting, even though the music is mediocre it’s fun to have the option to go to concerts.

Naficy:  I love the late night shows at the hotlix stage where you can dance with everyone from little kids and older folks, and everyone is just there to dance and release good energy. It’s a great way to welcome the summer. I also love biking around the campground and a visiting my friends’ campsites and seeing all the little jam session ends that take place through the night.
