The Nintendo Switch, the nineteenth console of Nintendo, has left critics astonished with its innovative design and versatility. With such enormous potential, Expressions interviewed Senior Jacob Peterson, Nintendo enthusiast, to find out how he believes the Switch will affect the gaming scene.
“I think that it’s a good idea, especially in my future living situation, it will be very convenient to be able to bring a console back and forth between home and college.” said Peterson. The Switch will feature a portable and docked mode, allowing you to play on the move, or settle down in your living space and utilize its dock to upscale the native resolution for a more immersive experience on the TV.
Some Nintendo fans are skeptical about the fledgling console after Nintendo announced it will only be able to play games and not search the internet like the DS and Wii Lines of consoles. Market shareholders are also fearful of the release, with the unfortunate mirroring of the price drop following the Wii U’s release, the Switch has lowered Nintendo’s Share value by 7 percent.
“As long as it is marketed correctly, launches as well as the Wii and the Wii U, and is available in larger numbers so that there aren’t shortages, the Switch should hold up to the hype. Especially if the platform for game development is more 3rd party accessible, I think people will have them around the campus. I’m not a fan of multiplayer games, but if it gets big enough, I wouldn’t be surprised to see students playing with their friends a lot.” said Peterson
The Switch definitely has its ups and downs, but with the increasing demand of portable gaming opportunities, the future for the new console looks strong. For more information about the switch, visit Nintendo’s website.
