Many video games have iconic images, and these are the most beloved images for SLOHS dorks. Photo illustration courtesy of freshman Herschel joyce.
Video games are a huge part of teen life at San Luis Obispo High School. Their use maximizes many functions, from dealing with stress to messing around with your friends at three in the morning.
But out of the nearly endless numbers, what game is above them all?
According to a recent Expressions poll of freshman, seventy percent said the mobile game “Clash Royale” is the most popular, with online gaming universe “Roblox” coming in distant second at 18.6 percent.
“Video games are an amazing source for fun and socialization. If it wasn’t for video games, I wouldn’t have known or been as good as friends with many people,” said freshman Yeshua Hernandez.
Adults often think of video games as a waste of time. Sometimes, they even blame video games for teen violence and depression. However, this rarely happens.
44.3 percent of the seventy SLOHS freshmen said that gaming helps them be happy and relax, while another 32.9 percent said it’s a great way to be social.
Granted, the concern that video games have downsides is not unfounded.
“Video games are fun, but they are too addictive,” said freshman Leo Feldman.
However, the positive attributes of video games far outweigh the downsides.
“I think video games are a good way to connect with friends from a distance. For example if you and your cousin lived far away from each other you can play video games to connect without having to travel far distances. Video games can also be used to deal with things like depression.” said freshman Jack Starr.
In our modern age video games have taken over culture and used up a lot of time for young adults, toddlers, and grown men and women. Since the idea of a video game is such a wide spectrum, thousands of individual people or small teams, as well as corporate giants have made video games. This led to there being thousands of games, from adventure games to 2D games and more. Which is why this question is so interesting, as with the thousands of options any game could come out on top.Overall this shows that video games are a huge part of life here at SLOHS, so no matter what you play, whether it’s popular or not, it’s probably a great choice.
