Whether one has a significant other to spend Valentine’s Day with or not, any San Luis Obispo High School student can take the fantastic opportunity and spend their day watching a classic romantic movie! Expressions provides to you a list of ten great movie options, in no particular order, accumulated by SLOHS students to make your Valentine’s Day holiday full of fun films.
10. “Valentine’s Day”: Is called Valentine’s Day! Automatic points for creativity. With an impeccable cast, this movie goes through the ups and downs of the lives of interconnected characters on Valentine’s Day.
9. “Crazy Stupid Love”: “Valentine’s Day and Crazy Stupid Love are two of my favorite romcoms. Both have a similar set up where there are multiple story lines that all join in at the end of the movies. Both are very funny and have amazing casts,” said senior Catie Leebrick.
8. “50 First Dates”: “I like 50 First Dates because it’s lighthearted and funny, while still being romantic. Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler fit so well on screen and play really interesting characters. I love it because you can watch it any day of the year, but makes you appreciate your loved ones even more on Valentine’s Day”, said senior Olivia Cisneros.
7. “The Notebook”: A classic. “The Notebook is my personal favorite because it’s not like any other one. Your eyes get glued to the screen and you feel connected and emotionally invested in the characters and their love story,” said senior Cypris Hogan.
6. “10 Things I Hate About You”: The 1999 rom com in which new high school student Cameron is instantly infatuated with popular sophomore Bianca, who is not allowed to date unless her older, anti-social sister, Kat, does.
5. “The Proposal”: “My favorite romantic comedy with two of my favorite actors, Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock. Sandra Bullock’s character is the boss of Ryan Reynolds’ character and her visa is going to expire soon so her and Reynolds’ character have to pretend to be engaged so she can stay in the country,” said Leebrick.
4. “La La Land”: With a spectacular soundtrack, this film pairs Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling as their character’s pursue their musical and acting careers in Los Angeles.
3. “Love Actually”: While some people reserve this movie for the holiday season, it’s arguably a perfect Valentine’s Day movie that reminds us that love actually is all around.
2. “A Cinderella Story”: Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray star in the perfect teen romcom. A modern day high school version of the classic Cinderella fairytale.
1. Marvel Movies: “If you are single I recommend not watching a romcom or any sort of romantic movie because it will make you sad, so this Valentine’s Day I will be watching multiple Avengers films,” said Leebrick.
