The new release of Glokk40Spaz’s new album “Baby Woah Deluxe 2” has quickly become a hot topic among students at San Luis Obispo High School. While some students praise the album’s energy and unique sound, others question the hype surrounding the rising rapper.
Released earlier this year, “Baby Whoa Deluxe 2” is the latest project from underground rapper Glokk40SPaz.The album expands on the original release with additional tracks, bringing the total number of songs to 31. Known for his aggressive beats, and experimental sound, Glokk40Spaz has built a strong fanbase online, especially among teenagers who follow underground rap.
Junior Beau Crew: My initial reaction to Baby Woah 2 Deluxe, you know, I was sitting in a parking lot in my car, and I found out Glock 40 had dropped an album, and I pressed play. The first song I heard was “Peso”. And “Peso” just really made me want to run through a wall. The beat starts off very fast and hard, there’s a lot of unique ad libs and samples that go together to make the song super exciting from the start. There’s a joker sample in there that goes: “Why so serious?” And that just really made me like the song. And then I just went through the album, and all the other songs had a similar vibe, and it kind of just tied the album together. And I felt like it was really good.
Junior Sawyer Cram: I’ve never previously listened to Glock 40, but from my initial reaction to the first song I felt like it was much faster paced when compared to what I usually listen to but sounded good. I think the rate at which he sings is pretty good. He’s constantly singing throughout all his songs without any pauses. I feel like a lot of the songs on the album are very similar but also unique in their own ways. They’re all a similar speed, and the beats are very consistent throughout all the songs. I thought it sounded good.
Beau: My favorite song on the album was “OSO BABY”. I felt it had an electronic type beat, and it was kind of like a different type of beat than Glock 40 normally does. It kind of felt like a house song turned into a rap. It feels like a cool late night drive song or like you’re going down on the freeway fast, you know. But I feel like most people that would listen to that song would enjoy it. It’s got a wide variety of things to like about it.
Cram: My favorite song on the album was definitely “Fix my habits”. I really liked the beat of the song. It stood out from the rest of the songs, which I liked. Also, the pacing of how fast he sings is much slower than the other songs on the album. I like that you can hear what he’s saying a lot more clearly and also the overall vibe that the song gave me. It was just really unique when compared to the rest of the album, and just stood out to me.
Crew: I thought the album overall was great. You know, I feel like you could press shuffle on the playlist while you’re driving and just not have to worry about skipping a song because they’re all consistently good and they have a consistent vibe. If you’re feeling kind of excited, or you’re going to do something, or maybe you just want a motivation boost you could really throw on the playlist, and it will just get you going and get you excited about what you’re about to do. You don’t have to worry about choosing a specific song on the album. Even though it’s a big album with a lot of songs, they’re all consistently good and similar but also different enough.
Cram: I think this album is really well put together. There’s no standout songs that are skips, and you can kind of just listen to any song and not have to worry about it letting you down. I think the kind of similarity of all the songs on the album makes it really good, because you don’t really get tripped up on any specific songs. You can jump in wherever. There’s also some good songs in it. This being my first time listening to Glock 40 spaz, I think it was a good introduction to this type of music.
