The San Luis Obispo High School Softball team has been killing it this spring season with an undefeated league record of six wins. Considering that they have gotten a new head coach this season, their record has been at thirteen wins, four losses and two ties overall.
This season, the team has had an incredible display of collaboration and unity.
Many credit this relationship to the competitive tournaments they play at. Travelling with a team fosters connection, fun memories, and a great team building experience. The competition found at these tournaments is better than what they normally get over on the central coast.
“My favorite thing about this season was the Bakersfield tournament. That tournament helped our team become closer, and we had so much fun at the team dinner during that tourney,” said junior Audrey Young.
The SLOHS Softball team practices skills not just on the field, but in life. Staying disciplined and being responsible for one’s own time management, scheduling, and
“Being a part of the softball team has helped me in high school because it has kept me active and very busy, it keeps me focused on my schoolwork. In life, it has given me the same reasons; it keeps me busy and has taught me many skills that I know will be beneficial in the future,” said junior London Sutton.
This shows that you don’t always just have to do school and focus on school work, you can play and be a part of a sport that is part of the fun in high school. They have sports like softball that you can play, but while doing this you have to realize that you have to be a student before you are a student athlete. When you are playing sports like softball it gives you the chance to do something special for your school that will be remembered for a long time.
“Yes, I think that students should join the softball team; it is a great game, and can boost athleticism and mentality. It’s also such a great community and everyone is so welcoming,” said freshman Grace Henard.
When you are in athletics you are a part of something bigger than yourself and when everyone is doing well at the sport that you are competing with them on the same team and rooting for each other to do well while you are in high school. SLOHS Varsity Softball exemplifies this.
