San Luis Obispo High School seniors struggle daily with burnout, also known as “Senioritis,” causing students to be tired during lessons and bored during classes. Students tend to struggle with interactions during school and may even lower their grades.
“I think that we experience burnout because we’ve taken a lot of hard classes, and the end is in sight, so we’re ready to graduate,” said senior Kaitlyn Kelly.
Many upperclassmen or seniors struggle with burnout because of the amount of time they’ve been in the education system. Several consecutive years in school as a teenager can be exhausting, but most people simply have to play with the cards they were dealt.
“I’d say I experience burnout similar to seniors because there are times in the trimester where there’s a ton of work all at once, and it gets really exhausting and tiring,” said junior Emily Svendsen.
It also seems that many students’ families pressure the students to go to school to get a high level of education and go to a nice college. This pressures the students to get solid grades and keep a consistent GPA so that they can guarantee a nice college to attend. But it isn’t just the seniors who experience this. It seems that a lot of lowerclassmen feel that they are going through a similar experience with school burnout.
“While I do experience burnout, it’s definitely not as much as any other grades because they have a lot more work to get done,” said freshman Jake Van Luchene.
Not only do seniors and juniors deal with these problems, but also freshmen and sophomores do.
Take steps towards solving some of these problems and take off some educational stress by addressing feelings of stress and exhaustion and adjusting academic plans as needed.
