San Luis Obispo High School students that were looking to add some excitement to their lives signed up for the SLO Assassins Nerf War. Assassins is currently taking place over the course of third trimester, ending the Sunday before finals.

This is not a school affiliated activity.

Students involved are not allowed to shoot Nerf guns on any SLCUSD property (including parking lots), during any school related event, while a participant is working or driving, or inside gyms and religious establishments.

But everything else? Fair game.

“Morro Bay High School has had an assassins game in previous years (and this year). It looked really fun, and I decided I wanted to do something like that too,” said game administrator and senior Owen Blackwell.

All students had to pay an entry fee of $5, and they can respawn once which costs $20. SLOHS students have the chance to win over $500 in jackpot money if they can last to the end.

With a massive prize on the line students are forming alliances creating strategies, and ambushing other players.

“I’d just got home from five hours of rehearsal. I got out of my car, and four kids came running at me and all of a sudden I started getting shot at. I’m impressed with their commitment, because before this they didn’t know where I lived. They learned my schedule to get me out of the game,” said senior Olivia Cusick.

Assassins has already claimed 17 victims in under a week (out of the 80 participants).

“If you win, you need not have to explain… If you lose, you should not be there to explain,” said senior Clay Bitler, who along with his teammate, senior Kaedin Bryan, had eight eliminations, the most kills after the first week.

Videos and photos of eliminations are posted on the game’s Instagram page @slo.assassins.

Students can follow along on the Instagram page to find information like the player roster, and rules.
