Students at San Luis Obispo High School are all probably familiar with English teacher and Newspaper adviser Scott Nairne. Nairne has been a teacher at SLOHS for 23 years and has made an incredible impact on the students and staff.

Recently, Nairne won the California Teachers’ Association Gold Educator Award. As stated by the CTA, this award is bestowed upon educators and members of the community who promote quality public education, and impact their students and community.

“Nairne is a great teacher that strives to make his classroom educational, but also fun to be in. I believe he absolutely deserved to earn the award,” said freshman Sage Meeks.

Expressions talked to Nairne himself to see how he felt, being recognized for the impact he has made on students and the community.

“Getting recognition is always great. It always feels good to get rewarded but at the same time, I always think about who could really use an award, and I’m fine, you know, but I know there’s a lot of especially newer teachers that could really use that pump up,” said Nairne.

Nairne is a humble teacher, but Meeks isn’t the only person on campus who is absolutely thrilled that Nairne was given this award.

“Scott Nairne’s nomination has been a long time coming. He is a deserving educator who makes a positive difference in the lives of both students and staff,” said American Sign Language teacher Kristen Nusbaum.

Nairne is a well-liked, amazing teacher on campus. If you haven’t met or said hello to him yet, stop by sometime and congratulate him on winning the Gold Educator Award!
