San Luis Obispo High School girls’ varsity soccer has just started off their season. Head coach and science teacher Brendan Mcloone and assistant coach and math teacher Rylee Birdsall anticipate a good year to come.

“Like any team, it is going to take time, dedication, and a lot of energy but we do have a talented group of girls. At this moment, all I can predict is that I know our team will try their best,” said Birdsall.

The girls have already played in some pre-season games and tournaments. On December 14 they traveled to Righetti to take on the Righetti Warriors. Our tigers were able to pull out a win with a 2-1 score.

“With regards to the tournaments, our first tournament was in Clovis and we got 2nd place. This was a very exciting moment, as the girls began to gel with one another more” said Birdsall.

Unfortunately, we will not be having any home games due to the construction around campus. However, coaches and players are hoping to get the practice field set up by the end of winter breaks for some home games there.

“I am most looking forward to the memories I will make with the team, and just seeing everyone grow on and off the field throughout the season” said junior Lucy Reed.

The ladies have been working hard to all communicate and work together as a team.

The girls’ next game will be Friday against Atascadero High School at Atascadero.

Let’s get excited and cheer on our lady tigers out there on the field!
