The 60th Annual Grammy Awards will be broadcasted from Madison Square Garden in New York City on January 28, 2018. Airing on CBS, the show will be hosted by network favorite James Corden.

  This year saw the nominations of fan favorites such as Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar, and Childish Gambino, as well as popular niche artists like SZA, Father John Misty, and Mura Masa.

  For artists across the country, the show is the Mecca of music, where they can appreciate their favorite music and criticize the Recording Academy’s final decisions. For students at San Luis Obispo High School, however, the purposes for viewing vary.

   Celebrities—arguably the biggest part of the awards show—run rampant on this special day, much to the amusement of the consumer public. The Grammys hosts countless celebrities, but the performers tend to draw the most attention.

  “Watching the Grammys gives me the chance to see some of my favorite artists perform,” said sophomore Cheyenne Miller.

  The Grammys not only satisfies our simple desire for music and fame, but it also presents us with incredible fashion for our eyes to digest. Being a somewhat less conservative awards show, the red carpet is often adorned in abstract silhouettes and provocative beauty.

  “Musicians seem to be more creative, so the fashion they bring is always exciting to see,” said senior Liliana Turner.

  Regardless of the reasons for watching, viewers of awards shows continue to make the Grammys a cultural cornerstone.
