During this 2024 spring sports season, our San Luis Obispo Track & Field team received a new transfer athlete who immediately climbed to the top of our sprinting group. Senior Wyatt Maulhardt broke school records previously set in 2015 by Nate Greenelsh in both the 100 and 200-meter sprints.

With a time of 10.63 in the 100m, Maulhardt’s times are fast enough to contend with college athletes. The Northeast Division 1 conference leader in 2022 ran 10.62, and eighth place was 10.83. With times like his own, there is no doubt that Maulhardt will have great success in the track and field world.

Surprisingly, Maulhardt hasn’t been on track for very long.

“I’ve been doing track since I was a sophomore, this year is the first year that I’ve just been doing track as my only sport,” said senior Wyatt Maulhardt

With only three years of track, Maulhardt has immense natural talent for the sport. Even with loads of natural athleticism, all athletes have something that makes their work challenging. For Maulhardt, it was the transparency of the sport.

“It’s not like there’s anything distracting you, everybodys kind of watching you. you have to be very good at managing the stress,” said Maulhardt

By the end of the 2024 track season, Maulhardt broke two school records.

“10.63 and 21.35. Those are the times I ran to break the 100 and 200 school records, and then I ended up running 21.29 like a week later to break the 200 again,” said Maulhardt

Even with all the pressure, Maulhardt is undoubtedly one of the best athletes to ever be on our SLOHS track team.
