The SLOHS campus should be a feet-friendly zone!! Photo courtesy of senior Addi Woods.
Many students at San Luis Obispo High School feel ashamed of their feet and keep them caged in shoes every day on campus. This feet stigma needs to be over, especially in this 80-degree weather.
Be aware that wearing shoes on campus is part of the official dress code.
“I love wearing my flip flops at school. There are always a few people who love to point out your toes, but they’re really just jealous of your feet freedom,” said senior Lily Niven.
I do have to admit that I would bat an eye when recent SLOHS graduate Owen Blackwell would have his feet out every day, but I have come around to loving the shoe-less freedom.
“I used to be a little skeptical as an underclassman when I would see people with their dogs out. But being able to wear my Birks and Rainbows without a care in the world has been wonderful,” said senior Sofia Waggoner.
Birkenstock sandals and Rainbow flip-flops have become increasingly popular among students and can be seen all over campus.
“I like to wear my Birkenstocks at school, but I always wear them with socks. I think that your feet should only be out at the beach,” said freshman Beckett Woods.
My advice to anyone reading is to ignore the haters and let your feet breathe at school. Bonus points if you sit outside while doing your assignments and sunbathe your feet!
