The New Year, 2021, has finally come and it is for certain that no one including San Luis Obispo High School students and staff can really say they’ll miss 2020. It put us through obstacles we’ve never faced and kept us questioning how it would turn out. With quarantine happening for everyone across the country, being locked inside your house takes a toll on your mental health. Now that it is a new year, many of us are hoping that it will be better than the last.
This year is the year to refresh and speak to what your mind and body needs after last year.
“I like to sit at the beach at least two to three times a week. Sometimes I’ll get in the water but just physically sitting at the beach gives me respite that it’s different,” said principal Leslie O’Connor.
Many of us may be needing more social interaction which hopefully can happen without risk sometime this year. Some of us might need to just be outside more whether that be going for a walk or taking a hike. Sometimes nature really lets us find the peace within ourselves because of the peacefulness and beauty.
“The thing that I am most looking forward to in 2021 is a surf trip I’m gonna take to Hawaii. My family and I are going to Kauai island, we are taking the trip in summer,” said freshman Nathaniel Kraker.
Hopefully this new year can bring happiness, and we can hopefully rejoice with our families because some of us may be needing that to help our mental health. 2020 was a very hard year for most people. It really tested out mental health and we all got through it, but 2021 is the year to really gain back what your body and mind needs.
“In 2021 I’m looking forward to things going back to normal. It might not happen but maybe we could go back to school. I hope I can go out with friends again too,” said freshman Gabriel Limon.
2021 is the year for mental and physical health. Regaining the peace and happiness that we might’ve lacked in 2020. Find ways to bring out what makes you feel the best. That can be running, painting, hopefully seeing the ones you love or trying something new. This year is only as good as we make it and our bodies and minds will be content with how we listen to them.
