From “Ironman” in 2008 to “Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3” in 2023, San Luis Obispo High School Students have grown up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Tomorrow, July 26, the new movie “Deadpool and Wolverine” will open in theatres, joining the list of epic films SLOHS students need to watch over the summer.
Deadpool and Wolverine are both characters that have existed for decades, however, it wasn’t until the movie “X-men Origins: Wolverine”, in 2009, that these two appeared together for the first time on the big screen, and this duo has been waiting to show what they have to offer working as one. This is one of the main reasons why SLOHS students are thrilled that the time is finally here.
“I’m really excited because these two characters [Deadpool and Wolverine] are so different and they’re being combined together. And I’m excited to see how their humor, their personality and their powers mix together,” said sophomore Bee Balicki.
On one hand, Wolverine, James Howlett, is a mutant with claws in his forearm he can release through his knuckles, and he’s played by Hugh Jackman.
“[Wolverine] is cool. He shows a different perspective than what I’m used to. Many characters are good and they might turn a little evil, but with him, you can’t tell if he’s good or evil, and I like that,” said 2024 graduate Tea Fischer.
On the other, Deadpool, played by the one and only Ryan Reynolds, isn’t a mutant and doesn’t have claws, but he shares with Wolverine his ability to regenerate and heal incredibly fast, making both of them very powerful.
“[Deadpool] is so funny. I love him, his movies are definitely in my top five movies, they’re my favorite things ever, and I always re-watch them. That’s why I’m so excited about “Deadpool and Wolverine”,” said senior Valeria Noriega Rodriguez.
The plot of this movie and how it will develop is a mystery that students at SLOHS will have to discover by themselves starting tomorrow.
Tigers, expect laughter and fun from “Deadpool and Wolverine”, it will be worth your time. So get some popcorn, sit back, relax, and enjoy this chaotic but entertaining duo.
