America has really flown their freak flag by making the one season, seven episode Netflix original documentary, “Tiger King” reach number one in the charts. If you are one of the few who has not seen this series, you might be confused as to what it is, but don’t be alarmed because all of America really is in the same boat.
This brief docu-series focuses on the man who calls himself Joe Exotic and his experiences with owning a zoo full of big cats at one point owning 277. But, that is not even close to the weirdest thing to go on. In the first episode you learn the Joe Exotic has been accused of murder for hire. Throughout the episodes you will learn more but the storyline consists of the constant battle between a big cat rescue run by Carol Baskin a possible murderer and a big cat entrainement run by Joe Exotic.
The question really is why did it become so popular?
“It teaches you a lot about tigers and how they need to be saved as well as how people use them to gain money. It is kind of random but also very entertaining,” said junior Zoe Bumen, who watched the series in two days.
Many people believe it got so big because of the pandemic, giving Americans a way to focus on something else totally bizarre. Personally, I think that even without the pandemic it would have blown up because believe it or not, Americans are weird, and they would be interested in a man who looks like Trump’s cousin.
Secondly, Is it worth the watch? Well if you find yourself with free time, which should be everyone, the show comes with good recommendations.
“I highly recommend watching it. It is a great show that sheds light on the horrific crimes of Carole Baskin,” said junior Thomas Cole.
If you want to understand all the memes and why it is blowing up, you really do have to watch it. It’s like watching a train wreck, your eyes will be glued to the screen even if it is one of the many hard scenes to watch. Or maybe your eyes will be glued on the constant fear that Joe exotics eyebrow ring will finally fall off, but don’t hold your breath.
“I would recommend it because the show depicts a part of America that not many people know about. Big Cat People are a breed of their own and do some crazy shit and the show explores just how far these people will manipulate others in order to get what they want,” said junior Bautista Guerrero.
