Seniors at San Luis Obispo High School are finally hearing back from schools and making their choice of where they will be attending for the following year. With the choice many students are factoring in the cost of the school. It can be a major deciding factor for most people along with the location of the school, size and majors they have. Senior Alexis Nelson recently received an amazing scholarship from Iowa State university, Expressions interviewed her to find out more.
Expressions: Why did you decide to go to Iowa State?
Senior Alexis Nelson: I decided to go to Iowa State because the programs they have for my major are amazing and will provide me with amazing opportunities throughout life. Plus it’s a beautiful campus.
Expressions: What other schools did you apply to?
Nelson: I applied to and got into University of Minnesota, University of Tennessee, University of Iowa and University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Expressions: Can you explain how you applied for the scholarship and what the scholarship is?
Nelson: I applied through Iowa State for this scholarship. The scholarship is awarded through the school, and it is called the George Washington Carver Full Tuition Scholarship. It is awarded to students who are exceptional in their academic record and grades in addition to the students being from diverse backgrounds.
Expressions: What are you most excited for?
Nelson: I am most excited to experience living in a new place very different from California and Hawaii and the ability to make new friends while getting a world class education.
Expressions: What is your major going to be?
Nelson: I will be majoring in Psychology.
