Are you bored this summer? Do you feel like you have nothing to do? Well come down to the Mission plaza on Friday nights for music, dancing, and food!
Concerts in the Plaza are a great way to spend time with family and enjoy the warm summer nights. Concertgoers have the opportunity to immerse themselves “with the finest of local talented musicians.” The concert series, which runs from 5 to 8 p.m. every Friday night, offers a wide variety of music from “electric to gypsy rock, jazz to beergrass, sun-drenched pop, and more.”
“My sax teacher, Larry Kim, actually has a band called the Damon Castillo Band, and they play there pretty regularly, so it’s fun to go see them every summer,” said senior Cisco de la Garza.
Damon Castillo Band is just one of many bands performing at the Concerts in the Plaza. On June 23, people will get the opportunity to listen to The Tipsy Gypsies, followed by Diego’s Umbrella June 30, Bear Market Riot July 7, The Kicks July 14, Moonshiner Collective July 21, Resination July 28, Royal Jelly Jive August 4, Damon Castillo Band August 11, Young Dubliners August 18, Zongo All-Stars August 25, and Truth About Seafood September 1. The summer concert series will conclude this year with The Mother Corn Shuckers on September 8.
“I love just going and watching the different concerts. It’s just so nice to see how people can work together to make music and perform,” said senior Jessica Perje.
Along with fun upbeat music, Concerts in the Plaza offers a variety of food and beverage vendors starting at 5pm. The concert series provides entertainment and a way to support local talent.
“The concerts aren’t usually too packed. Just stand right in front of the stage and you’ll be able to dance,” said de la Garza.
If you are unsure how to spend your Friday nights this summer, come out to the plaza, connect with local culinary artisans, and dance away the night while listening to local musicians.
