San Luis Obispo High School offers an amazing class, Dance 1, which is a perfect opportunity for non-dancers to learn how to dance. This class is recommended because it’s exciting, relaxing, and a break from sitting down during the long school day. Along with the fun, students can free their minds by creating and collaborating with peers, and be accompanied by the best dance teacher, Mandi Mettler.
“It’s the best class at SLOHS, it’s just really fun, everyone has a good time,” said senior Sedona Bitler.
This class also comes along with yoga time every week, which gives students the chance to calm their minds and get in touch with their inner selves. For students who have never danced before and want to learn, this class is a great opportunity for them to learn simple dance moves and get more comfortable with dancing. This class provides a place for students to get to know one another and create an unbreakable bond.
Students find the class very enjoyable, thinking about it as a break from listening to your teacher’s lecture and sitting in a chair all day. This class makes sure students are active and having the best time they can! This class teaches a variety of dances like hip-hop, salsa, and some sassy jazz.
“I learned hip-hop, salsa, I learned how to meditate and collaborate with the people in the class,” said senior Payton Moynihan.
Dance is proven to be good for the mind and body, and in a way, therapy.
“Dance sessions have proven a space for children to excel in a way that they may not have in a traditional classroom setting. Pushing back the boundaries of what is the right way of learning and being taught is imperative in school education,” wrote journalist Polly Ferguson-Carruthers.
Having a dance class at school is an amazing opportunity that not a lot of students have, so take that opportunity and go take Dance 1!
