Students at SLOHS tend to listen to music to help cope with their feelings, but why? A significant portion of students, around 74 percent, report using music to cope with difficult feelings, anxiety, or stress.
For students, music can be a way to get away from the real world. It can help students feel a sense of belonging and protection that help students cope with feelings, and just anything students or even any person feels upset about.
“I feel like music really helps me cope with my feelings especially when I feel sad. I love listening to music all the time. It really helps put me in a better mood,” said freshman Addy Hopple.
Students at SLOHS love music, it helps a majority of them feel happier and puts them in a better mood.
“One of my favorite songs to listen to when I’m sad is “Ribs” by Lorde. It really connects to how I’m feeling and overall is a great song,” said freshman Jasmine Jenny.
“Ribs” popularity is well known because of its unique and personal style and sound. The artist really knows how to capture the feelings of nostalgia and the anxiety of growing up. SLOHS students really connect to this song, as growing can be scary and this is a good way to help them connect somehow.
“If I’m really happy I’ll listen to hype music and when I’m sad and I want to be happy I listen to happy hype music,” said sophomore Devon Callahan.
Overall music is a really good way to help deal with stress, anxiety, relationship problems, and harsh emotions. SLOHS students will most likely continue to listen to music, and if you haven’t already will you start to listen to music to help cope with your feelings?
