Get ready for the annual San Luis Obispo High School ceramics club empty bowl event!
This upcoming community event will take place on Thursday, April 24, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the SLOHS Wrestling/Dance room.
This event will positively affect the ceramics club, and all donated proceeds will go to the Cap 40 Prado homeless shelter in SLO.
Students and staff are thrilled about this event. While the ceramics club students are getting ready by making some beautiful bowls, as well as our SLOHS culinary club is preparing soup for this event.
“It’s a really fun event. We have an art show. I have a couple of pieces in there. I have a couple of friends who are pieces in there. We have a lot of impressive stuff. People always ask me, Isn’t this supposed to be student art? And it is. They don’t believe me. The soup is really good too, and you can pick from a variety of bowls, and you can buy more than one,” said the senior ceramics club president, Jacob Cook.
Cook encourages students to explore the creative pieces crafted by their peers. For just $20, you can purchase a unique bowl that showcases artistic talent. Along with this amazing piece of work, you’ll also be treated to a delicious bowl of soup. It’s a wonderful opportunity to support your fellow students while enjoying some art and a warm meal.!
When a student buys a piece of artwork, theyy not only get something beautiful, but will also be helping the Cap 40 Prado homeless shelter. Your purchase supports those in need, making it a great way to enjoy art while giving back to the community.!
“It’s really cool. So all the proceeds go to charity, so we donate it to our local homeless shelter, and it’s through like a bigger organization. So it’s a like, it’s a nationwide event, but locally, we donate it to our homeless shelter, so it goes to whatever, like proceeds, and last year, we raised over $2,000, and so brings in quite a bit of money, like, for the homeless shelter and stuff,” said ceramics club member junior Aiden Dellinger.
The Ceramics Club has put in a lot of effort for this event. It’s a truly special club that not only supports the school but also makes meaningful contributions to the community.
“Ceramics Club is a really sort of close-knit community where students of ceramics can, you know, go and join and make what they want and make the Empty Bowls and contribute to the Empty Bowls event,” said Ceramics Club senior Anika Richard.
