October has finally arrived which means San Luis Obispo High School’s Boys Baseball and Girls Softball teams have already started practices. Although both Softball and Baseball are spring sports, SLOHS Tiger athletes want to be prepared for their season and get ahead of schedule.
Students have already started after-school practices and are eager to know who will make the roster come Spring.
“Right now we are just practicing once a week, after school. Soon we’ll be practicing three times a week and we’ll start scrimmaging. Not that many people try out, so there are just JV and Varsity teams which is cool,” said freshman Liberty Davis.
Viewership for the Women’s College World Series (softball) championships, Oklahoma vs. Texas, peaked at a record of two million viewers in 2024. With softball on the incline in popularity, the team is ecstatic to play their hearts out and bring home some softball trophies to SLOHS this year.
“My favorite part of baseball is the community built into the teams, and how well everyone gets along,” said sophomore Blake Schafer.
The 2024 MLB season had record attendance numbers, as it now holds the spot as the most attended season since 2017, with over 71 million people attending an MLB game so far this season. With views skyrocketing for MLB games, SLOHS Tigers can’t wait to play in front of huge crowds on Taylor Field come baseball season.
In 2025, the Varsity Baseball head coach Treanor, will be coaching his second season with the boys. Last season, Varsity Boys Baseball went 10-19 in the Mountain League.
Varsity Girls Softball coach Emmel, has been coaching softball at SLOHS since 2018 and led the team to an 11-15 record last year in Ocean League.
Baseball’s preseason schedule has yet to be announced. Softball’s first preseason game against Mission is here, at home on February 24. Sport fans can’t wait to get a taste of softball and baseball, right here in SLO!
