On September 18, at Templeton High School (THS) our own San Luis Obispo High School (SLOHS) football team took on the Templeton Eagles. The Eagles were led out by sixteen year old Isaac Lindsey. During the fourth quarter, Lindsey asked to be substituted out due to an increasing headache. After a couple minutes on the sideline he fell to the ground from a seizure. Lindsey was then taken to the hospital and put into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Suffering from a Traumatic Brain Injury, he was put into a medically induced coma. It has been merely two weeks since the incident occurred, and he has already made a giant step in his recovery process.
On Sunday morning, Lindsey’s mother Jenny Lindsey took to Facebook to announce that he is now breathing on his own and that they are about to start a long road to recovery. In the past couple of days he has been able to move body parts, recognize some of his family members, and say a couple of words.
“Everyone on the team really feels compassionate for him, we have him in our thoughts, and we are trying to get a group together to see him when he’s all better,” said SLOHS senior varsity football player Jackson Martin.
Lindsey has been taken out of critical condition and put into “a step-down unit” where he will be monitored at all times. All of his friends and family at Templeton High School have been having a difficult time dealing with this situation but they are hopeful for what is to come.
“He is getting better and he is starting rehab pretty soon. It’s going to be a long process but I know Isaac will be back soon,” said Templeton High School junior Nate Avery.
Avery is a close friend of Lindsey’s, even referring to him as his “brother”, and is hoping for the best.
A “Go Fund Me” account has been set up for the Lindsey family starting out with a goal of around $55,000 they reached that within the first couple of days and now are at around $94,351 in under a week.
“Our town and school have been affected emotionally in a tremendous way because Isaac was nothing but nice to everyone. We figured that just by being there for him and doing something, he will appreciate it when he comes back to school and sees that everyone was and still is here for him,” said Templeton High School junior Maddie Johnson.
Donations are still being accepted and a barbeque will be held this weekend in Templeton with proceeds going to the Lindsey family, so come out and grab some grub.
SLOHS has been supporting Lindsey and THS in all ways possible. We hope to see recovery go well and for Lindsey to get back on the field.
From all of us at SLOHS, we have Lindsey and Templeton High School in our thoughts and are hopeful for what is to come from this situation. Keep fighting #32.
