Senior Kristina Smelser plays for the San Luis Obispo High School girls varsity soccer team and has done so all throughout high school. As she wraps up her last year on the team, Expressions interviewed her on her commitment and success to her fellow teammates and the sport.
Expressions: How long have you been playing soccer?
Senior Kristina Smelser: I’ve been playing soccer for the past 13 years.
Expressions: What position do you play?
Smelser: I play center midfielder.
Expressions: What is your team’s record so far this year?
Smelser: Our record is 13-0-1 and 6-0 in league.
Expressions: Do you plan on playing in college? Or in the future?
Smelser: I might play club soccer in college but not for a varsity team.
Expressions: What was your most exciting game over your four years of SLOHS soccer?
Smelser: The most exciting game for me was probably against San Marcos in CIF last season.
Expressions: Best locker room memory?
Smelser: My best locker room memory is when senior Grace Park and I play “Boom Boom Pow” by the Black Eyed Peas before every home game.
Expressions: What have you gained from playing soccer for SLOHS?
Smelser: I’ve become a part of an awesome team and learned to work hard and be competitive.
Expressions: Why should students come to your game?
Smelser: People should come to our games because we play an exciting and high-scoring style of soccer.
Expressions: When is your next game? Where?
Smelser: Our next game is against St. Joseph (January 20) and we do not know if it’s home or away yet, it depends on the weather.
