Many students who celebrate Christmas at San Luis Obispo High School have put up their Christmas decorations in their houses by now. Whatever decorations they have, they’re bound to have bright lights and ornaments that illuminate the cold dark winter season.
Colorful Christmas lights and decorations are the best lights to brighten your gloomy winter days.
Even though white Christmas lights are popular, colorful lights always give a cheerful pop of color to one’s home. This is especially true in my own house, where most of the furniture is either gray, brown or white.
Furthermore, bright colors actually elevate dopamine levels, especially during colder months. Many people are often emotionally and mentally affected by the shortened days and cooler weather, so exposure to cheery colors may help one feel happier.
In my house, colorful stockings are hung on the handrail of the stairs. Red and green Christmas crafts I made when I was seven years old are used to decorate the coffee table. These small yet endearing decorations give our house character and really bring it to life.
Others may prefer their Christmas decorations to have a common theme or aesthetic, however there’s a point when it’s too much: too much white, too much beige, bland decorations, etc.
It’s especially tacky and excessive to go as far as to paint colorful ornaments brown to match your “sad beige” aesthetic!
Christmas is meant to be a joyful and merry time of year, why not reflect that in your decor?
Students at SLOHS should embrace the Christmas spirit by rejecting neutrals and decorating with bright colors!
