So are SLOHS students getting enough sleep?
Recent studies show most teenagers need exactly nine and quarter hours of sleep.
“I don’t think I get enough sleep, probably seven hours,” said Junior Brinley Ewen.
Most teenagers get 6 ½ to 7 ½ hours of sleep. On average a teenager gets tired at 10:30 p.m. Staying up later for homework or other reasons can make them not fall asleep until 12:00 a.m.
SLOHS starts at 8:00 a.m. making it so that if someone were to wake up at 6:30, they need to fall asleep at 9:15 to get the proper amount of sleep.
“I need more sleep because it is hard to focus in class,” said Brinley.
So how can one go to sleep earlier? One who stops using screens an hour before they plan to sleep, can get an extra 21 minutes of sleep. Something as simple as getting a little exercise in the day can help someone fall asleep at night faster.
If a teenager gets 30 minutes more of sleep you can see major changes in six weeks. Such as, overall happier and more steady mood and increased academic and athletic abilities.
Overall, one needs to get more sleep! Just something to think about Tigers!
