Over the last couple of weeks, San Luis Obispo High School teachers have been watching and picking out the students who they see as being true, helpful, inspiring, necessary, and kind. ASB organizes the student of the month barbecue once a month, a community-building barbecue among SLOHS staff and these outstanding students.
“I picked the student who had all five criteria of THINK. He is super responsible, respectful, and kind,” said Spanish teacher Edelmira Rayher.
When it comes to students of the month, teachers like to pick someone who fits all the THINK criteria both as a student and a person. Those who constantly show effort to be true, helpful, inspiring, necessary, and kind are the ones who catch a teacher’s attention.
“I picked a student who embodied all of the aspects of THINK,” said English teacher Meg Higdon.
In SLOHS, being the student of the month isn’t just a title, but a great responsibility. They represent the grit of SLOHS students as a whole. By selecting a couple of outstanding students every month, an example is set for other students to follow and succeed. If everyone strives to be a student of the month, SLOHS will consist of nothing but high-performing students who put in the effort to stand out.
“I have three different classes that I teach. Each month, I pick a different student who I feel represents the hardworking kind of students that we should have at SLOHS,” said English teacher Scott Nairne.
This month, strive to be the best student, classmate, friend, and person to eat some of the best barbecue with the coolest SLOHS staff ever.
