Having a mascot at San Luis Obispo High School brings a sense of school pride and brings more energy to the student section and the athletes on and off the field. This is because grade level sections working together to make noise and show support to one another and hype each other up. When everyone sees the Tiger mascot,Tony the Tiger, it reminds them it’s not always about getting the dub, it’s about having fun and making high school memories that will last a lifetime.
“The environment and people cheering is my favorite part of football games,” said senior foreign exchange student Erika Cancilleri.
Cancilleri also expressed she would not want to be the tiger because she is shy, but she thinks the tiger helps increase school spirit. When Tony the Tiger waves, takes pictures, and dances with people in the student section, the crowd goes wild.
Senior Sage Lindvall thinks the student section is really fun to be a part of and the themes SLOHS ASB has chosen are making the student section more spirited. After three home games of having a tiger mascot, she believes it’s a great addition to the SLOHS Cheer Squad. Sage stated that when the tiger dances, it encourages the student section to do the same.
“I like the student section and the mascot, but I would not want to be the mascot for a game,” said senior and SLOHS Cheer member Lily Blanchard.
Tony the Tiger and the SLOHS Cheer Squad will be making it their number one goal to make sure the remaining home games on the new field are super hyped and make sure everyone has a memorable experience during the game.
