Our modern society is very focused on the importance of cars, especially for teenagers. Once they reach the age of fifteen, most teens will work towards getting their driving permit. However, not everyone has the privilege of getting their own car, and they’re not the most efficient option. San Luis Obispo is a small town, therefore a car is not always needed to get around. Here are some alternatives:
- Bicycle – Bicycles are a great choice for traveling a fair distance across town. They’re fairly cheap and a great cardio workout, not to mention they’re environmentally friendly! If you have one lying around, ride it around town and feel the cool breeze that SLO has to offer.
- Walking – If you live a few blocks away from your favorite restaurant or your usual hangout, walking is always a good option. Whether you’re walking or jogging, it’s better to get exercise rather than driving.
- SLO Transit – Then there’s the somewhat under-used option, SLO Transit. It only costs $1.25 to ride, it carries multiple people making it environmentally friendly and efficient. There are dozens of bus stops across SLO with multiple routes to ride. Give it a chance if you have the cash to spare.
- Don’t go outside – If for some reason you don’t have access to any of these transportation modes, you can always just stay home. Nothing like the quiet darkness of your own home to shield you from the outside world.
