While sophomores and juniors at San Luis Obispo High School were registering for their classes, a new addition to the science department was the most noticeable among them.
AP Biology is being offered to juniors and seniors with Biology P as a prerequisite.
AP Environmental Science is being offered to juniors and seniors with Biology P or Chemistry P as prerequisites.
“I’m really excited [AP Biology] is being offered this year because when I moved here, I wanted to take it but SLOHS wasn’t offering it,” said junior Sofi Shaw.
The SLCUSD school board made the decision to offer these two courses across the district on March 2, along with approving other additions to the music department, the art department, and the physical education department.
“This decision was based on feedback and interest from students, parents, and educators,” said vice principal Jessica Miller.
After spring break, administrators will know how many students approximately enrolled in AP Biology and AP Environmental Science.
In the future, there’s the possibility of yet more AP courses being offered to students.
“Right now, there is nothing on the docket about adding other AP courses to other departments, but that doesn’t mean that something won’t be added later on. We are always striving to provide rigorous and engaging course opportunities for our students,” said Miller.
SLOHS is excited for these new course additions for 2021-22!
